The Golden Compass - New Line Cinema

Posted by Dan Murunga under Adventure Movies, Fantasy Movies

Searching for an adventure movie during the December break? Look no further. The movie is about a young orphan (Lyra) who lives in a world, where human souls take the form of animal companions called daemons. Lyra’s best friend disappears and she goes on a quest to find him, against her uncles wishes. On the contrary, Mrs. Coulter wishes to take Lyra on lifetime adventure, and one of the things Lyra packs for the adventure is the usual compass (alethiometer). Little does she know, the compass is what many would want to get their hands on… even kill to get their hands on. The compass later reveals the truth to her about the friends kidnapping and she goes up against the evil force behind it. Through it all is an adventure worth knocking you off your seat.

The adventure is brought to you by a cast your already familiar with, Daniel Craig and Eva Green… hmmm, where have you heard of this names? yeah, you got it, the action packed James Bond movie, Casino Royale. That’s not it though, the cast also consists of Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Kathy Bates, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ian McKellen. The movie is directed by England’s prestigious Cambridge University, screenwriter-producer Chris Weitz.

New Line Cinema has commissioned screenwriter Hossein Amini to write a screenplay based on the second book in the trilogy, The Subtle Knife, potentially for release in late 2009; with the third book of the trilogy, The Amber Spyglass to follow. However, New Line president Toby Emmerich stresses that production of the second and third films is dependent on the financial success of The Golden Compass.

You might think that its another wizard infested movie like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, but your wrong, its a unique movie classical to it’s own giving you one reason to seek it out and watch. It’s coming out Friday December the 7th, giving you another reason to watch….. It’s the holidays. IT’s a nice movie folks, and you would not want to miss it on the theaters, I know I won’t.
