Grief Assurance - negativeZERO Films

Posted by Oluwaseun Pelemo under Short Films

This is our first review on Flixlog and its about a short drama that has been featured on Stage6 for a while now. This short film was produced by Negative ZERO films which is a production group that specializes in producing media through various forms on topics and issues that usually aren’t covered through mainstream media, and keeping the content accessible to the average person. Dark comedies, music videos, documentaries, viral shorts, dramas, satires, etc. according to the description on their stage6 channel. One of their productions; ‘The Terrible Young Couple’ won the best drama award at the CBI 2007 Production Awards in Washington D.C. late October 2007. A careful look at their works shows that they are a quite skillful group and they inject humor into their films. Today, I will be reviewing ‘Grief Assurance’.

Firstly, their video production was very good. Their video was very clear and transition between scenes were just awesome. I’d say anybody that see such a start will definitely be encouraged to see the rest of the film. Audio quality too was sharp and clear and that explains why the number of views of that film on stage6 had been 10,771 people as at the last time I checked. Also, 831 people had downloaded the film and 59 people added it as one of their favourites.

Secondly, their continuity was awesome and made the film easy to understand. They closed up on the characters properly when they had to and there was a narrator for the better part of this film to explain what was happening at each stage. They did well making the movie very short and meaningful at the same time; living well to its play-off line ‘Because funerals aren’t always fun’.

The only downside is that the film had a clear storyline that ended with some loose ties. In my opinion, the producers should work more towards making sure that they end their films in a way that all the possible lines of interest created in the film are well concluded. In conclusion, ‘Grief Assurance’ is one of the greatest films I’ve watched and definitely requires attention and audience from all short film and even movie lovers. We hope negativeZero can work more towards bringing out a movie as the direction of this film passes for one which should have been longer than it is. We hope to see more from negativeZERO in times to come. Click here to see the Grief Assurance Official Film Site.
